What's the difference between a cold air intake and a short ram air intake? What are the benefits of one over the other? Cold air intakes attempt to relocate the engine air filter outside of the engine compartment, thus pulling in cooler air and allowing for more power. Woosh as you hit the throttle is the sound my jeep make's from my DIY intake system "APC UNIVERSAL INTAKE KIT"($60). The K&N cold air kit cost around $300 for this vehicle... and hasn't been updated since it came out, it has its flaws. And the AEM intake isn't much better, but i do think it has a design advantage. So I went and made my own based off of the AEM Bruteforce intake. Its pretty simple to do, and self explanatory once you have all the pieces in front of you. Basically you pop the hood and remove the upper part of the stock airbox.
