Well its not Twelfth Night yet so as we had snow overnight - first proper snowfall of this winter in Newcastle - heres See Amid the Winters Snow. See Amid the Winters Snow is a Victorian Christmas carol. It was written by Edward Caswall 1814-1878 and published in 1858 as a poem then in 1871 Sir John Goss 1800-1880 wrote the tune Humility specifically for it it was then included in Bramley and Stainers hymncarol book Christmas Carols Old and New of 1878. Ive heard this sung in church but I was inspired to sing this here by Kate Rusbys fabulous version on her album Angels Men though she doesnt sing all the verses Maddy Prior has also sung it both with the Carnival Band and with Steeleye Span.
