London Underground: Circle and District Lines

This film features some of the subsurface division of the London Underground system the Circle and District Lines in Central London. The subsurface lines are built right beneath the surface by the cut-and-cover method. Sometimes the route is even laid out in a trench with some beautiful brick stone walls. The film starts at Paddington which is a busy station also connecting to National Rail services for the Great Western Mainline. We then move to High Street Kensington where the Edgware Road branch of the District Line diverges from the Circle Line. Next up is Westminster which is by the River Thames. It is completely underground and is served by the Upminster branch of the District Line. Other stations include Temple Mansion House and Monument which are all on the southern part of the Circle Lines circular route. Monument station also features the famous Mind the Gap Please announcement which can be heard prominently in the film. Rolling stock that can be seen in this film is modern S stock which is used on most Circle and District Line trains. Some trains of the Upminster branch of the District Line are also operated with old D stock which is also featured in the film. Enjoy!
