Summer Lawn Prep Starts Now!

In the early days of May most places around the country are experiencing the joys of Spring. Everything is growing flowering and blooming. The lawns in both the warm season and cool season zones are green and people are mowing regularly by now. The thing is though that the heat of summer is coming very fast and it sneaks up on most lawn owners while they are still settling into the Spring lawn maintenance pattern and enjoying the comfortable outside temps. This is one of the most important times of the year for your lawn because as its putting on top growth your grass plants are also putting on lots of underground root growth as they prepare for summer struggles. In the north high heat can be hard on cool season grasses and in the South cool season grasses can struggle with drought or high humidity. Even warm-season grasses will likely have to contend with excessive amounts of moisture disease and pest pressures. To start off my Summer preparations Im applying two bio-stimulant and soil-building products to my lawn both of which should help with root development and improving the root structure and soil structure in my lawn. Im applying D-Thatch to feed the microbes in my lawn improve nutrient uptake in the grass and shrink my thatch layer to healthier depths. These are found in products like RGS and others that include sea kelp or seaweed extracts but on my lawn Im using CytoGro a specialty product that only delivers cytokinins and the extra cofactors things that help your grass use those cytokinins most effectively.
