Chkdsk Cannot Run Because the Volume Is in Use by Another Process

Chkdsk checks your disk for errors at a low level requiring exclusive access to the disk to do so. Chkdsk cannot run... Volume is in use means it doesnt have the exclusive access it needs. CHKDSK and a disk in use Chkdsk requires exclusive access to a disk in order to make repairs. Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process results when any other program is accessing the hard disk. Windows itself is often that other program.
