Surah Al-An’am (in Arabic text: ٱلأنعام) is the 6th chapter of the Qur’an. The surah titled in English means “The Cattle” and it consists of 165 verses. ٱلأنعام | Al-An’am | “The Castle” Revelation: Meccan No. of Ayat: 165 verses Chapter of Qur’an: #6 Position: Juz 7 & 8 Inspirational Quote: “And the worldly life is not but amusement and diversion; but the home of the Hereafter is best for those who fear Allah, so will you not reason?” Surah An’am Ayah 32 About this Surah: The surah encompasses the struggle that Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) had convincing the idolaters, specifically the Meccans from their invented rituals. This surah tries to persuade them to abandon their sinful habits and to follow the Quran’s message. v.145 mentions which kind of meat is forbidden for Muslims to eat and should be avoided. The surah is called, “the cattle” based on v.136-145 where it states that Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) has made Cattle permissible for consumption with no restriction. v.137 and v.140 are important verses which clearly forbid infanticide which was a common practice in pre-Islamic Arabia. .
