The 2024 Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series: Everything You Need to Know

Today Im going to take a look at the 2024 Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series which has just been revealed with a new retro-look front-end design a refreshed interior more safety gear and a new four-cylinder diesel automatic powertrain option. Lets find out what makes this iconic off-roader so special and why its still going strong after almost 40 years. The LandCruiser 70 Series is one of the most rugged and reliable vehicles ever made with a loyal fan base around the world. Its designed to handle the toughest terrain and the harshest conditions with a ladder-frame chassis a solid live axle suspension a low-range transfer case and a locking rear differential. Its also built to last with a reputation for durability and easy maintenance. The 2024 model year brings some significant changes to the LandCruiser 70 Series starting with the exterior. The most noticeable difference is the new heritage-inspired front-end which features circular LED headlights a black mesh grille a bonnet with turn signals and dark grey alloy wheels. The new look pays homage to the original 70 Series that debuted in 1984 and gives the car a more classic and charming appearance. The interior also gets some updates such as a new 6.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto a 4.2-inch instrument cluster screen a new-look speedometer and tachometer and two USB-C ports on the GXL grade. The cabin still retains its simple and functional layout with durable materials and plenty of storage space. The 76 Series Wagon also gains a reversing camera which is a welcome addition for such a large vehicle. The biggest news however is the introduction of a new 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine which produces 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission which is a first for the LandCruiser 70 Series. The new powertrain also features a mild-hybrid system which uses a belt-driven starter-generator to provide extra torque and improve fuel efficiency. The new engine is available on almost every variant except for the entry-level 76 Series Wagon WorkMate which is only offered with the new engine. The 4.5-litre V8 turbo-diesel engine which has been the staple of the LandCruiser 70 Series for over a decade is still available on most variants and delivers 151kW of power and 430Nm of torque. The V8 engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission and has a distinctive sound and character that many fans love. The V8 engine is also more expensive than the new four-cylinder engine with a price difference of 4100. The 2024 LandCruiser 70 Series range is set to hit Australian dealers in November with prices starting from 75600 for the 76 Series Wagon WorkMate with the new four-cylinder engine and going up to 87600 for the 79 Series Double-Cab Chassis GXL with the V8 engine.
