Time is a very important concept for us. And for good reason too! To make sense of the world around us better we want to know if something happened in the past or if it is happening now or if it is going to happen in the future. To talk about what we are going to do in the future in English there is a special group of words that we can use. That special group of words is be going to. We will see how be going to can be used in English with example sentences from Cruella. But before that lets see why we may want to use be going to We use be going to to talk about our intentions. Our intentions are things that we want to do in the future. For example I am going to watch a good movie tonight. A person who says this sentence plans to watch a good movie tonight. Good for them! Another reason we use be going to is to predict something. In other words we use it for predictions. Now to predict means to say that something might happen in the future. For example it is cloudy today. I think its going to rain. Because I see clouds in the sky I predict that it is going to rain. Last but not least we use be going to when we want someone to do something and we give them no choice. For example if you say you are going to come with me you mean you want the other person to come with you and you arent giving them any choice. Be careful with this one because it might sound very rude if you dont know the other person very well. One thing you should be careful about the future construction be going to is this: Although it looks like the verb go it is not the same thing anymore. Think of going to as a phrase that you use in a sentence after the verb be and then dont touch it. Trust me. We never touch it.
