As we approach the end of 2019 I reveal the Amazon FBA product research criteria that I am using to find products to sell on Amazon in 2020. FBA product research criteria is one of the areas that causes a lot of new sellers to get stuck when finding FBA products. They are often following a strict set of product research criteria based on common YouTube Guru teachings but are unable to find an Amazon product that ticks all of the boxes. It is my belief that when finding FBA products you should develop your own product research criteria based on your individual circumstances and goals. You should consider what you are your goals for FBA what budget you are working do and how risk-averse you are willing to be. An Amazon seller with a 10000 budget that they can afford to lose that wants to see fast returns may have different product research criteria to a seller with a smaller budget that is building a longer-term business with a lower risk approach. This is what I believe makes a good FBA product to sell on Amazon... SalesDemand: 150-200 units per month at 5-7 profit per unit 1000 per month By finding products that only sell 150-200 units per month I am taking a low-risk approach to Amazon FBA. At any one time the maximum amount of inventory I should need for any individual product should be 500 less this means if anything goes wrong I dont have all of my investment tied up in one product. It is also easier to launch products that sell less and they generally attract less attention and competition as they dont fit the common product research stats. I like to see around 10 sellers on the front page achieving similar sales so that it confirms it is possible to get ranked organically with low sales. Profitability: When selling on Amazon I aim for a minimum profit margin of 30 this usually ends up between 20 and 30 after unpredictable costs such as returns PPC. Price Point: I look for products with a minimum price point of 20.00 otherwise it is difficult to make money once you become VAT registered. USP: What opportunities are there to add perceived value to the product? By adding value it helps you stand out it can make review counts irrelevant as products arent directly comparable and it often means you can charge a higher price and make more money on Amazon. Seasonality: I prefer to avoid all seasonal products - especially short seasons EasterChristmas however if the opportunity was right I may consider long season products summerwinter. You can check the seasonality of an Amazon product by using Xray from Helium 10 as shown in the video. SizeWeight: I would like to sell small and light products so I can airship the inventory however most products that sell for 20.00 or above are often large enough to require sea shipping. Reviews: Generally I now ignore the quantity of reviews competitors have as if you add a strong enough USP then the reviews dont really matter. I do tend to avoid niches where lots of products have a 5 star average as it makes it more difficult to compete if you dont maintain the same rating.
