this is really just a brief overview showing the difference in the output that the OPL3 duo board generates running over MIDI vs serial raw OPL commands provided by a few DOS games doom descent tyrian and since it doesnt actually feature the vintage hardware anywhere it required a similarly damaged numbering scheme so welcome to episode minus one i guess something to mention regarding the OPL boards is that while theyre quite simple to get up and running theyre not exactly consumer products - they do have an expectation that the user has some programming knowledge so while i cant recommend everyone interested in vintage PC vidya run out and buy seven of them i figure people interested enough to have demanding OPL quality requirements and people who can run a programmable microcontroller are close to a circle in a venn diagram of users. also to note: dosbox-x is a fork of dosbox that supports the OPL2 audio board and OPL3 duo natively and has a ridiculous amount of other enhancements and i suggest using it over base dosbox for practically any use case also also i totally didnt do this in the video but doom supports OPL3 - run it with the parameter DMXOPTION-opl3 yes include the - before opl3 i dont know i didnt write doom go here for info opl2arduino library github: I PROMISE NO SPONSORED CONTENT I JUST LIKE THE BOARDS if youre interested in picking these boards up: opl2 audio board - opl3 duo - dosbox-x github: and homepage: as always im sorry im bad at youtube and videos i swear i wrote notes scripts had a structure and layout for how this was going to go down did probably 50 takes over 3 days and _this_ was the best result :,
