2023 Ginger cultivation has begun. I was contacted by Mrs Abena to supply ginger for an acre and this is how far we have come . The cost of cultivation is getting really expensive as she did some modern farm practices. She had to rent a bulldozer to clear the land for almost 2.5k ploughing for 350 seeds and transportation breaking the rhizomes and planting. The good thing is the land is really soft now and rhizome growth will be easier. We also tried planting with cutlass since the soil was soft but failed. The rhizomes are larger and couldnt enter the holes. We had to resort to what we do best this time with Newbeis . These were farmers in the area but had no experience cultivating ginger . With some demo they started planting but later came back to bargain for an increase in their wage . The work is not easy they said . We had to cut our losses and go for experience Ginger planters for the same price. Again the Challlenge here too Is the Holes were too shallow due to the loose nature of the soil. You will need a wider Hoe . Now the work is halfway done. We were supposed to go to work today but apparently Thursday is reserved no farming hmm . Why do we still practice this ?
