Restoring Our Temperate Rainforests One Tree Planted

Planting a temperate rainforest in the United Kingdom is helping to connect students to biodiversity and the legacy of trees. The United Kingdoms west coast is one of those areas and holds a unique range of species. They are immensely at risk only 1 left in the UK right now. In a school in Cornwall UK there is an effort to bring back this ecosystem by planting a temperate rainforest. To restore an ecosystem we have to understand them and what makes them special. Temperate rainforests are created by a Gulf Stream that brings damp warmer weather and carries algae and lichen spores. The forest will act as a structure for these vital organisms to flourish. To plant this new temperate rainforest the Miyawaki method is used. This method is a process of densely and randomly planting native tree species in order to evoke biodiversity to imitate nature. Indigenous native trees are being planted and at 10 years will reach 8 meters about 26 ft tall. At 60 - 100 years it can be considered a rainforest. Connecting youth to these forests helps to build a legacy and brings connection and a bit of magic to their lives.
