He was there to film an interview for an upcoming IMAX film on the adventures of Martin & Osa Johnson, and their plane expeditions into Africa and Borneo with the Sikorsky S-38 and S-39. Design and development Based on the earlier Sikorsky S-40 that flew in 1931, Igor Sikorsky and Charles Lindbergh, working at the time as a Pan American Airways consultant, laid out plans for a new, larger flying boat. This is one of the newest lines of aircraft from Sikorsky. The S-76D was certified in 2013 and it replaces the older model, the S-76C++. The S-76d has a four bladed rotor system both at the top and in the tail. And the aircraft uses a pratt whitney engine that powers it to cruise north of 152 kts while burning about 650 pounds of fuel per hour.
