Название:   происходит от греческого слова 'pelargos' — клюв аиста, и обусловлено наличием длинного плода, напоминающего клюв аиста.  Описание: род насчитывает около 250 видов, произрастающих в основном в Южной Африке.  Многолетние травянистые или полукустарниковые растения. Стебли прямые или ползучие, ветвистые. Листья красивые, простые, пальчатые или пальчато-рассеченные. Цветки разнообразной окраски, собраны в мало- или многоцветковые зонтиковидные соцветия.
