Here is a quick easy to the point video on how to remove your EGR valve and tube. In this video I show you how to replace the air filters on a Mercedes W164 OM642 Bluetec Turbo Diesel with the newer style of clip in air boxes. For the video I am using my 2011 Mercedes ML300 W164. What you will see is that I originally purchased the wrong filters for this vehicle and had to purchase filters matching a W166, thus I believe this video is also applicable to the Mercedes W166 chassis as well, which commenced production in 2012. I wasn't able to show the actual opening of the motor by me since I had an electrical shop try to work on it and they opened it before me but failed to pull the bearings and repair the brushes. A couple things I didn't mention in the video. Here is the part you will need. Although the car is all wheel drive, if you remove the rear drive shaft the car will not move, the transfer case transfers the power to the area with least resistance. So it sends the power to the rear axle which is non existent once you remove it. I was hoping that once I removed it I could spin the front axle and the remaining carrier bearing section to try and replicate the sound I was hearing. Unfortunately this is not possible. A local shop put a stethoscope on it and told me it was my rear differential. I didn't think it was so I decided to check for myself.
