The computer I am using has a AM3 socket based Athlon II Regor 245 processor with 8 GB of ram. You will need at least 8 GB to use the ZFS file system in FreeNAS. If you wish to put very large hard drives in your FreeNAS computer, you may need more than 8 GB of ram. Usually I don't use computer based NAS(Network Attached Storage) units, because the cost of operating it is more expensive than getting a Synergy NAS unit. Recovering FreeNAS Volume Using Linux.

So long story short, my FreeNAS box died. Mobo, PSU, and FreeNAS boot usb all fried. BUT the data was still intact and the hard drives still working. This is the process i used to recover the data, if you have any questions i can try to help answer them but no promises as i'm not a BSD/Linux person by trade. You would use this process if for some reason your FreeNAS installation (not the data stored on your hard drives) were to for some reason fail to boot. You could possibly run up another version of FreeNAS attached to your NAS system and recover your Volumes that way, but i never tried that.
