It aids as a anti-theft preventative. How to start the truck: Insert key into ignition and turn to on, the truck can not crank this way any longer, next you push in the cigarette lighter to start it. Tools needed: Socket set, Screw drivers, hex heads for screw driver, knife What you need: 4' of 14-16awg copper wire, 1 inline fuse. 1 quick splice/connect. Solder gun, Electrical tape Heat Shrink tubing...Optional: zip ties. How it works: On 2002-2005 Dodge ram 1500/2500/3500 there is a ignition wire harness under steering column. There is a 16 gauge yellow wire and a 16 gauge Red with white stripe wire in the wire harness. The Yellow wire is the starter wire, it is hot at all times. The Red/White wire is the ignition switch wire. **How to install: Start by disconnecting the negative battery cable. Then take off the panel under the steering wheel, it has 2 hex screws at the bottom corners and pull tabs on top. Then take out the screw above the purse hanger on passenger side. Then you can pry that entire radio bezel panel off with a flat head screw driver. It has tabs around the corners. Disconnect the A/C controls and air bag control and the cigarette lighter plug. Then set that panel to the side. Once that is off locate the starter wire, trace it down as far as you can and cut it in half. Put a piece of tape or heat shrink on the wire that runs up into the steering column. Next find the ignition wire and using a quick splice, splice into it. Then run a 2' piece of wire from the quick splice up to the cigarette lighter hole. Back to the starter wire, either solder or connect a piece of 2' wire to the starter wire you cut in half. Run that wire up to the cigarette lighter hole. Leaving about 3" of wire on the cigarette lighter connector, cut it off. Tape off both loose wires. Connect the starter wire to the red wire on the connector and the ignition wire on the brown/ black wire of the connector. There are 2 tabs on the cylinder of the cigarette lighter housing, pry those out as they are what hold the lighter in when you want to heat it up. We want it to shoot back to regular position after we press it to start.
