Título: Morando no meio dos rios e lagos: arqueologia das estearias ou palafitas do Maranhão Palestrante: Dr. Alexandre Guida Navarro (DEHIS/PPGHIS/UFMA) Mediação: Dr. Eduardo Goes Neves (MAE/USP e PPGDS/MPEG) Resumo No início da era cristã ou da era comum até o ano 1100 d.C/EC viveram sociedades indígenas em palafitas no estuário ocidental do que hoje é o estado do Maranhão. Uma vez que esses povos construíram as aldeias em cima de troncos de árvores fincados no leito dos cursos d’água de rios e lagos, conhecidos como esteios pela população local, estes lugares ficaram conhecidos como estearias. A existência de farta alimentação nesses lagos e rios pôde criar uma situação favorável à habitação sedentária destes povos na região. Nesta comunicação apresentarei os resultados de 6 anos de pesquisa acadêmica desenvolvida pelo Laboratório de Arqueologia da Universidade Federal do Maranhão (LARQ-UFMA) do qual sou o coordenador. Levando em consideração uma abordagem da história de longa duração, mencionarei aspectos da ecologia histórica, do mapeamento dos assentamentos, da documentação etnohistórica, da coleta de artefatos e da análise dos artefatos cerâmicos dos povos que moraram nas estearias. Por fim, farei um balanço das pesquisas apontando os principais resultados e os novos problemas e desafios para a continuação dos trabalhos arqueológicos. Mini-bio Alexandre Guida Navarro é mestre em Arqueologia pelo Museu de Arqueologia e Etnologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MAE/USP), doutor em Antropologia pela Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) e possui dois pós-doutoramentos: um pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) em 2008 e outro na University of Illinois at Chicago em 2017, onde foi, também, Professor Visitante com bolsa da Fulbright Institution (modalidade Visiting Professor Award). Pesquisou nas seguintes instituições: Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi (Belém, Pará), Museu Nacional (Rio de Janeiro, RJ), Smithsonian Institution (Washington D.C.), Penn Museum University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology (Filadélfia, Pensilvânia) e American Museum of Natural History (Nova York), todos nos Estados Unidos. Publicou livros, artigos e capítulos de livro sobre a civilização maia e sobre as estearias do Maranhão.
