The position before us consists of a protected passed pawn on the Queen-side v two passed pawns on the King-side. In order to solve it we essentially need to know six things. 1. We need our King to help the passed pawns to promote. 2. It becomes self evident that we can safely traverse as far f4 using the concept of the square of the pawn. 3. The black King is consigned to the King-side and must remain there and in front of the two passed pawns to prevent them from promoting. 4. Black is not able to capture the defender on the passed pawns. 5. If we step out of the square of the pawn we need to be sure that we can promote one of our own pawns. 6. If we can promote one of our pawns we should be able to mate the black King. In order to help us we will use the endgame concepts of triangulation and opposition and the square of the pawn.
