It combines bug fixes, many small mods, changes to AI and AI armies, more provinces, graphical improvements, and many other campaign and battle map changes in a package aimed at providing a much greater challenge and more enjoyable gameplay. I will try to win all missions as fair as possible, so no rushing and no early harassing, at least where its possible since some maps are really small... And I will also try to not lose any units, as usual ^^ To make it more challenging, I used the Unofficial Crusader Patch (UCP) and played with Krarilotus' aggressive AIs and the SHC compatible castles. Shiler, of course, is the powerful Marada who brought Prince Cliff to her way of thinking and was planning to organize an alien alliance against us. We’ve had the option of attacking her ever since the conflict between Cliff and Oscar—her headquarters is marked on our map—but doing so early on is suicide. Now, however, we should be able to do it. I take the party to her headquarters and we have the option of turning back, but I press forward. Shiler confronts us to say how disappointed she is in our race and that the planet would be better off without us. We’re not going anywhere, of course, and the game throws us into the toughest boss battle so far. Shiler has even more health than King Rock—664 on Nightmare—and also has the advantage of being supported by two Marada Soldiers. The queen’s standard attack isn’t anything special, but she has an incredible special ability. Called “Shiler’s Touch”, it’s essentially a Lifegiver for the other side. She can instantly revive a fallen ally with 50% health, same as us. That means it's a total waste to try and attack her allies first, since she’ll just resurrect them. Our only option is to eliminate the queen first, and that’ll take a long time thanks to her high health. When the fight begins, I have Joshua, Tom and Rebecca fire at Shiler. They do moderate damage but not as much as I’d like—the queen’s acid resistance is 7—so I have Rumi hit her with Disrupt. Our turn ends, and Shiler shoots Joshua. Luckily, the Marada Soldiers have a purely defensive special move, so they use that and don’t attack this turn at all. When it’s our turn again, we do heavy damage to Shiler, although I don’t let Rumi attack. Marada as a race have very high Psionic resistance, and even with the Disrupt Shiler’s is too high for Rumi to be an offensive threat. I have her take Acqua Pura and our turn ends. Shiler retaliates by shooting Joshua, as does one of her Soldiers, but he’s still holding up well. We continue to attack the queen, and Rumi successfully hits her with Disrupt again. That reduces her acid resistance all the way down to zero, so our attacks are going to do even more damage. Unfortunately, the enemy promptly KO’s Joshua on their next turn; we revive him with Lifegiver, of course, but it means we only have two attackers that turn. Still, the enemy’s retaliation isn’t too bad, and we have everybody attack her next turn while Rumi drinks more Acqua Pura. The turn after that, Rumi successfully Disrupts the queen a third time, so now even her Psionic resistance is low. At this point I start having Rumi attack on her turn instead of using Psionics, but as usual that means she has little in the way of healing ability. That’s compounded by the enemy’s attacks on our characters, and we start to suffer plenty of KO’s. First Rebecca goes down, then Tom the turn after that, then Joshua two turns later, then both Rebecca and Rumi the turn after that, and then Joshua the turn after that. I keep reviving everyone as needed, though, and our own attacks do wear down the queen’s health. It takes a while, but she finally goes down. We now need to handle the two Marada Soldiers who are left. Their attacks are quite dangerous--they promptly KO Tom after Shiler goes down. Still, they’re much less powerful than their queen. They only have 199 health on Nightmare and 3 resistance to acid naturally. That means Disrupt isn’t necessary and Rumi can focus on healing while the rest of the party fights conventionally. After reviving Tom with Lifegiver, I have the group concentrate fire on the left-hand Marada. Both enemy soldiers respond with their defensive special—it’s a force field that reflects some of the damage we inflict back at us—but fortunately it’s not too dangerous. The main threat is the enemy double-teaming our weakened characters, which they do to KO Rebecca on their next turn. I revive her with Lifegiver and keep up the pressure while trying to also heal our characters. Soon the Marada Soldier we’ve been targeting goes down, leaving the one on the right easy pickings. We finally eliminate her as well to win easily the biggest battle of the entire playthrough so far. Each party member gained 325 XP from this one fight, with all except Rumi gaining a level. I allocate their skill points, and we’re shown a cutscene where Shiler finally dies. Michelle feels a bit sorry for the fallen queen, which Rebecca scolds her for. We can express agreement with either Michelle or Rebecca for some relationship points; I agree with Michelle. From there, I rest and collect our items, then report our victory over Shiler to the king. He’s astonished and even admits he wasn’t sure we’d be able to pull it off, but we nevertheless have. We receive credit for the quest “The Marada”, and Michelle, Rumi and Bellamy all level up as a result.
