The once-mighty Ottoman Empire is now a shadow of its past self; corruption is rife, the navy is hopelessly outdated and the military a relic of centuries past. Its borders on the east and west both threaten to collapse should Austria and Persia assault the ailing Empire; the reigning Sultan Mustapha II has done little to remedy this situation, preferring games of sport with the elites of society to the managing of his empire. His leadership has alienated many of the courts of Western Europe, and war currently wages against the Russian Empire. With a cabinet of ineffective ministers hand-picked due to their titles rather than skill, the Ottoman economy shrinks day by day. It is no surprise then, that the seeds of revolution are spreading all across the Empire... In spite of this, the Ottoman government launches a major infrastructure programme to modernise the highways across the vast Empire, and tax breaks enacted to incentivise growth. Outdated ships are scuttled and trade agreements drawn up with willing nations, in the hope that the Empire's cotton exports are able to turn a profit to the treasury. But is it enough to save the Ottoman Empire from imminent collapse, or have the roots of revolution now firmly taken hold?Our first conquest may have cost us dearly in lives. But is the best start we've got for our initial foray into establishing our empire.
