As we're skirting the walls of Riften we come across the Companions out hunting a bear, one of the rarer world encounters (01:05). From there we continue north, picking up the fast travel marker for the Riften Stables for the future before heading to the Merryfair Farm. I hate this location because there are always bears that spawn too close to it and will interrupt your attempts to talk to the locals. Sure enough, I have to reload because a bear interrupts while I'm picking up the Bow to the Master quest. We head north again, avoiding Fort Greenwall and it's hostile population. Before arriving at Shor's Stone we detour to a skill book well-hidden in a fallen log (15:00). We then do a meet and greet of the Stone, picking up a couple of quests in the last location outside of Riften we'll be visiting. We head back to the stables to talk to the people there, but just as we're getting ready to go inside a random necromancer encounter gets too close and aggros everyone at the gate. This happens quite often at the Riften gate, and while on the one hand it makes the encounter easy since guards and others nearby join in, it's annoying for all the same reason vampire attacks in cities are annoying. As I'm trying to take one of the necromancers down Kharjo gets in my way and I hit him, necessitating a load from my last save. I go after the necromancers a second time, and Kharjo gets in my way AGAIN. Third time is the charm, and after we clean up the mess we deal with Riften's gate guard interaction - avoiding the shakedown - after which we make a quick trip back to Helgen to dump loot.
