The Emissary is a character who appears later in the game, during the In Their Footsteps main story mission. They claim to be a protector of the secrets of the Unity, and they offer to help you find the final Artifact. However, they also have a hidden agenda, and they are not who they seem to be. The Emissary is actually your dead companion from the High Price to Pay quest. Well, technically, they are a version of them from another universe, in which it was you who died during The Hunter’s attack on the Lodge. This means that in their universe, The Emissary and you were once close friends. This twist is revealed during the All That Money Can Buy quest, when you confront The Hunter and The Emissary at the same time. Depending on your choices and actions, you will have to side with one of them or fight against both of them. The outcome of this confrontation will have a major impact on the ending of the game. The Emissary is one of the most important and intriguing characters in Starfield, as they reveal some secrets about the Starborn and their motives.
