He learned to play the violin from the Czilika family, and made his own violin. He accompanied traditional music groups at weddings, name days and various gatherings, and was also sought after by ethnographers covering this area (most notably being János Jagamas and Demény Piroska). Demény Piroska (1917-1994) was a secondary school teacher in Cluj-Koloszvar and a folk music collector. In 1941 he graduated from the Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca with a degree in piano , and in 1951 he obtained a diploma in music teaching. His collections of folk songs have appeared in several joint folklore publications (in the 1954 Faragó-Jagamas 'Moldavian Csango folk songs and folk ballads', named as Piroska I. Szabó). From 1971 until his death, working in the framework of Hungarian Radio and Television broadcasts in Romania, he presented hundreds of authentic Hungarian folk music recordings collected in Transylvanian villages. The present recordings were collected by Demény Piroska and come from the archive of Radio Cluj, most probably done sometime in the late '60's to early '70's.
