Bach held a series of important musical posts in his lifetime, including Kapellmeister (director of music) in Köthen and “Thomaskantor” in Leipzig, where he directed the choir at the church of St. Thomas and taught at its school. Famous for church music in both German and Latin, Bach also wrote a great number of concertos, suites, chamber works, and music for organ and other keyboard instruments. Bach’s Sonata for Violin and Harpsichord in E Major, BWV 1016 was most likely composed in Köthen, where he wrote primarily secular music since his employer, Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Köthen, was Calvinist and did not use elaborate music in his worship services. The Sonata for Violin and Harpsichord, BWV 1016 is written in trio sonata form, with two upper lines for violin and harpsichord over a third bass line, which is also played by the harpsichord. I was a crew member for them, and also produced their intro videos while I was with them. Keep in mind that these were edited with the purpose of big screen projections. This video was created to introduce the project for their Winter 2007 concert at the Lakewood Civic Auditorium. My aim with this one was to just kinda have it be a fun looking mashup, so I used all the obnoxious transitions and stuff, haha.The music and the images were extracted from my lp.
