The project seeks to use modern digital humanities tools to transcribe and translate the music and notes contained in approximately 850 high-resolution scans from hand-written notebooks (hefts) and catalogue into digital formats for further study and performance. Next we look at how notation often suggests the rhythm of a fiddle tune. There is a simple exercise to illustrate this. Finally, we learn a new melody in the key of C, based on the style of an English Country Dance tune. At the end the video introduces and demonstrates the idea of playing a Double stop chord. Repeat time bars/measures are also revisited in this video. I use the cheap £30 Glarry violin that I bought brand new off ebay in this series, trying to show that you don't need to spend a fortune to have a go at playing the fiddle. If you decide after a while that it's not for you, then you haven't lost a great deal of money, buying an expensive violin. However, if you decide it's great and you want to continue learning more, then you have found a hobby that will undoubtably maintain your interest for years to come.
