Reis - 5:41 Background about this Concert Over the past seven years Peter Zisa has yearly performed solo and duo concerts in various cities with the help musical and benefactors. This year Peter performed with duo programs with non-guitarists. On April 8th he had the honor performing a duo concert with internationally acclaimed master koto performer Miho Yamaji. A week later, at the invitation of Takuro Kitagowa, Peter performed with virtuoso violinist Aya Fujii. The photos in this video chronicles two days of rehearsals and evening concert before a full house. The program began with a short talk about the Why Music Matters. Dr. Zisa's Message: "Music is sometimes described as a universal language; this is likely because it is our first language! While the spoken word conveys rough descriptions of our thoughts and feelings, music contains the synthesis of heart and mind. While words may fail or fall short of fully expressing the depth of what we think and feel, music has the power to communicate and express meaning beyond words. Music also has the power to communicate directly to people from completely different worlds and different languages. This is because music is our first language, no matter our origin of birth and cultural language. The sounds we made before we could speak words, we used to express feelings of our needs (moans), our joy (laughter), desire (crying). Aya and I speak different languages (Japanese and English). Nevertheless. when we played Corelli, Paganini, and Piazzolla, we spoke the same musical language! That it is the mission of my non-profits organization CDZ Collegium Musica; that is to 'bring our community together through music performance and cultural exchange.' This concert is an example of extraordinary powers of music. I am very thankful to Kitagowa-san for inviting Aya Fujii and I to perform solo works and duo works for you. Ms. Fujii is a wonderfully expressive violinist. She has been a joy to work with and make beautiful music together. We are very excited about the musical gift we have prepared for you this evening. May you all thoroughly enjoy it." *** DR. PETER JOSEPH ZISA is an award-winning guitarist, “ who delicately blends melodic line and texture into an exciting musical experience” (L.A. Times). Reviewers and audiences across the U.S. and abroad describe Zisa’s musicianship as “dynamic, sensitive, authentic, inspiring and emotionally expressive”. In March of this year, he completed his 10th Album Meridional Odyssey, Vol 2 featuring the music of Ponce, Villa-Lobos, and Brower. Formerly head of the guitar program at Marylhurst University and Pacific University, Zisa is founder and president of music and education non-profit CDZ Collegium Musica. Its mission is bringing community together through music performance and cultural exchange. The Collegium presents engaging and educational musical performances that represent a wide range of styles and musical cultures. The program in concert is consistent with that mission. The mahogany neck has a smooth black walnut fingerboard and a 15.5"" soprano scale. Tuned like a concert ukulele, this banjolele is sure to add some distinctive tones to your jams. The etched patterns on the back of Luna's banjoleles are a tribute to traditional Hawaiian quilt design. In the early 1800's, missionaries brought woven fabrics and steel needles and taught the Hawaiian people how to make patchwork quilts. But the Hawaiians made them uniquely their own. The designs were cut from one piece by folding fabric in the same way that you would fold paper to cut snowflakes and were based on the many plants that surrounded them. Luna has chosen the KALO (taro plant) as inspiration because this plant was a sacred and an essential part of early Hawaiian life. Pick up a Banjo Ukulele.
