Remove the plant itself from the pot and try to separate each individual stem to have its own route structure. Using water to moisten the soil within the roots will make it easier to remove the roots from each other. Using a garden hose and water will make this job easier. Start by moistening the dirt and roots. As they absorb water they will become easier to pull apart. Some of the roots might be ripped up some but that's not a huge worry. The damaged roots will regrow. You need to remove all of the soil and dirt from the root structure in order to put it in your fish aquarium. Once you have cleaned the roots of the Pothos plants you can then put the plant in a fish tank. Upon placing the roots in the water, only have the roots themselves in the water. The stem can be in the water but it prefers to be out of the water. If any of the roots are placed out of water they will die. Pothos plants enjoy a plethora amount of lighting. Lift your aquarium light 6-10 inches above the aquarium to allow the pothos plant to receive some of that lighting. Most people attempting to add a pothos plant to their aquarium don't give it adequate lighting. Utilizing the light from your aquarium LED light greatly benefits the plant trying to grow. If your pothos plant starts to turn yellow or wilt, it most likely is light or fertilizer deficient. Consider dosing an aquarium liquid fertilizer to your fish tank to ensure the roots to your pothos are feeding.
