Ketika ajalnya mendekat/ ia dengan rendah hati meminta sehelai jubah baru. Martin : "Inilah jubah kuburku yang akan kupakai untuk menghadap takhta pengadilan Allah." Tak lama berselang, bruder saleh ini menghembuskan nafasnya terakhir pada tanggal 3 Nopember 1639, dalam usia 59 tahun. Jenazahnya dipikul ke kubur oleh dua orang uskup, wakil raja Spanyol dan seorang pegawai tinggi kerajaan. Makamnya dikunjungi banyak pejabat gereja dan pejabat Kerajaan Peru. Ia diangkat sebagai pelindung suci bagi para pejuang karya penghapusan diskriminasi rasia.
