I was able to record video from two different culture clubs that meet on campus. The first was 八重山芸能研究会 (Yaeyama Geinou Kenkyuukai) (club for Yaeyama Island) and the second was 琉球芸能研究クラブ (Ryukyu Folk Entertainment club). I don't know the name of the first song, so if somebody would like to write the name in the comments that would be great. The second and third songs are Juku no Haru and Hatoma Bushi. Here is some information on Hatoma Bushi, and the original link that I copied it from: Hatoma Bushi 鳩間節 Hatuma Island is a small island four kilometres in diameter, which lies to the north of Iriomote Island, in the Yaeyama group of islands. On Hatuma Island hatuma bushi is a slow dance performed during the Kitsugwan Festival to give thanks for a good rice crop. The dancers wear a sudina (top clothes) and a kakan (under clothes), have a flower in their hair and hold yotsutake (bamboo castanets) and dance slowly. However, the song was taken to mainland Okinawa and changed to a lively tempo. The actor Iraha Inkichi, at the start of the Taisho Period (1912 - 1926), created a stylish dance by mixing Mae nu Hama, an Okinawa dance based on karate, and kappore a Japanese mainland style of dance, which he learned from Naritaya Kosato. The dance became very popular. In particular, in 1937, when Arakaki Shougan's eldest daughter Arakaki Yoshiko danced in Tokyo, it was extremely well received. Also, in August 1941, the production company Touhou, by taking up this dance, played a large part in its introduction to mainland Japan. This dance is usually performed solo but is also exciting and stylish when performed by three or more dancers. The movement involves large gestures with the arms and legs, including araigoto (rikuhou) movements, making a significant departure from conventional Okinawan dance. Because it is a zou odori (Popular Dance) created during the Taisho Period (1912 - 1926), each dance master has their own variation of the dance.
