The drop-top 812 GTS isn’t just the Superfast with a folding roof. The rear diffuser has been redesigned in order for the GTS to match the aerodynamic performance of the Superfast. Cues have also been taken from the LaFerrari Aperta to minimise turbulence and noise inside the cabin at higher speeds. The all-important window that can be open and closed behind the rear seats allow for the beautiful V12 exhaust note to be fully appreciated when the weather doesn’t quite warrant the roof down. The roof folds up or down in only 14 seconds in an elegant, theatrical manor at speeds below 30mph. Despite being the convertible variant, the 812 GTS can accelerate from 0-62mph in “under 3 seconds” as stated by Ferrari. The GTS will carry on down the road to 211 mph, on par with the 812 Superfast. At everypress of your right foot, the naturally-aspirated work of art that sits in front of you eagerly delivers power to the rear wheels, with traction being managed by the clever onboard computers. With increasingly strict emissions regulations and fuel economy targets for manufacturers, could we be set to lose the naturally aspirated V12 and with it some of the Ferrari magic in the next generation of the Berlinetta. Part of the essence of any true Ferrari is the noise and with the V12 now revving out to nearly 9,000rpm, the way this car howls is nothing short of spectacular, demanding your attention. It had to be Ferrari who were gonna achieve this wasn't it? The signs were all there from much earlier on. So the SF90 (e.g. Scuderia Ferrari, 90th Anniversary) has finally made it to our shores, having debuted in late 2019 in Maranello, Italy. I heard there were already bookings for it here even before those gorgeous 20in alloys touched down on Malaysian soil, and at time of publishing, apparently TWENTY have been snapped up already. No, really... really? Let me roll-off some numbers at you: 0 to 100kmh in 2.5sec (you took longer to read that), 0 to 200kmh in 6.7sec, top speed 340kmh (Ferrari being modest, I think it's higher). Attaining these amazing times comes from two sources; a 4.0L 90-deg turbocharged V8-cyl engine producing 780bhp and 800Nm of torque, mated to THREE electric-hybrid motors producing 220bhp combined, for that magical (maniacal?) figure of 1,000bhp. Keeping all that power on terra-firma is the job of ground-effects and aerodynamics, for example, at 250kmh there is a colossal 390kg of downforce on that rear wing; that's like 3 big guys standing on the back of your car, or just me and Bobby... Power goes to all FOUR 20-inch wheels (yes, this is the first production Fezza 'sports car' with AWD) via an 8-speed F1 dual-clutch transmission, which swaps cogs in an astonishing 200 milliseconds. Interestingly, the reverse gear is not part of this gearbox. Cleverly, it's the job of the electric-motors to back the car up, and in doing so, Ferrari managed to shave off 10kg from the SF90's 8-speed transmission, which is now lighter than the 7-speeder in its other models. Brilliant! The aforementioned 20in wheels are shod with 255/35 and 315/30 rubbers front and back. Oh and just in case you were wondering about that title, yes, this is Ferrari's first-ever PHEV (yeah, no kidding, it's a plug-in hybrid), and yet it produces almost 200bhp per tonne (195hp/tonne actual). What else is there left to say? Not much except that the SF90 costs RM1,908,000 before duties, customization, options, taxes & insurance, and yet I just learned that TWENTY units have been snapped up. Yes, really. Wow. Just wow.
