I searched for months before I found this method from another guy (can't remember his name or where I saw it.) and after going crazy trying every other method under the sun to no avail, I tried this and it WORKED! The Backyard Space Program is proud to present the backdoor method for installing windows on older MacBook Pro's. Here's all the info pertaining to the software used in the video that you will need to successfully do this. I used a genuine Windows 7 Professional ISO file which I downloaded, and you will need at least one 8GB (must be this size or higher to work) USB flash drive. You will need a product key to activate Windows, but you don't have to worry about that right away as windows gives you 30 days to activate it. Software you will need to download before starting: 1) VMware Fusion 8.5* (This application is for creating and running other operating systems on OS X via Virtual Machines, or .vmdk disks which behave like a physical drive.) Download:( https://www.vmware.com/go/try-fusion-en ) *Free Trial available. Purchase required for full version. 30 Day free trial. Costs $79.99 for license. 2) Paragon VMDK Mounter** (This application allows you to mount virtual disks to OS X just as you would a physical disk or flash drive. This is necessary for the next steps.) Download: ( http://dl.paragon-software.com/free/VMDK_MOUNTER_2014.dmg ) **Free to download full version. 3)Winclone 6* (This application allows you to copy a BootCamp partition to another partition so you can move your OS and it's files easily. However, once the virtual disk is mounted via VMDK Mounter, you will use this to copy the contents of the .vmdk disk to a physical partition you will create with OS X Disk Utility.) Download: ( https://twocanoes-software-updates.s3.amazonaws.com/Winclone6.dmg ) *Normally there is no free trial for this software, however, they have released a BETA trial if you have upgraded to MacOS High Sierra. Costs $99.00 for license. 4) Daemon Tools*** (This software is optional, but does come in handy for mounting pretty much every kind of disc whether physical or virtual, plus much more. I didn't end up using it during my installation, but I did download it.) Optional Software. 5) Paragon NTFS 14*** (This application is also optional, but really helps when using a Windows partition on OS X. It allows you to read, write, and mount NTFS partitions and disks directly to OS X and makes it as easy as working on Windows OS!) Optional Software. 6)Apple BootCamp Drivers (For Windows 7)++ (You absolutely need to download the drivers for Windows OS to run on the MacBook Pro body. The link I've included has a table at the bottom of the page which allows you to determine which model and year MacBook Pro you have and it will show you which version of drivers you need. I know it's frustrating knowing that your MacBook Pro has BootCamp software included, but due to shoddy workmanship on the superdrive, older macbook pro's are left in the dust. So far this is the only method I know 100% works if followed properly.
