I didn't. Let's figure out how this works together. One of you asked a couple of weeks ago if the webcam was easy to use. I said to myself, wait, what? Webcam?! Then I thought about it and it makes sense because Nikon advertised it as a streaming camera as well. But…. I didn't pay much attention since that is not my form of content creation, but here we are and I could definitely see the use as a webcam. Let's get this camera setup to see how easy it is. Alright, I decided to watch a couple videos to make sure I do this correctly. First, you need to fully download the Nikon Webcam Utility onto the computer you plan to use. I will leave a link down in the description to make it easy. Next, you will need the usb-c to usb-A cord that came with the camera to charge it, you can also use a Usb-c to usb-c for Mac. Plug your camera into the computer and turn it on. I am plugging my camera into a docking station, which is connected to my MacBook. Then you open your app of choice, today, I am using zoom. Click new meeting. Then click the arrow next to start video and select the Nikon Webcam Utility. Now you should see the image coming from your camera. It is that easy! Please keep in mind that the sound does not come from the camera in this setup, it isn't supported. So you will need to use the computer mic and speakers or plug in external options. Pros I really like to use my macbook docked with a large monitor. This setup allows me to zoom for meetings, video chat with family, or even future collabs. All without having my computer open. I can use the presets I have saved already so that coloring and light temperature are set for the room I am in. Cons Sound is not supported. So I have to setup a different mic and speakers, or use what is built in to the computer. The temperature concerns. My camera does overheat periodically especially when I am charging while filming. I think this may pop up regularly when using the camera in this format. If you want optimal quality, you have to buy a third party device so you can change frame rate and level of definition. My thoughts This is pretty good in a pinch. However, I think you get better quality out of the box with an actual webcam. I also didn't like that I had to download an extra piece of software in order to use it. I plan on trying the webcam over the next couple of months and see how it works long term.
