I bought it, expecting it to be for pretty much parts only (I wanted the tuning eye tube mostly). Someone had nailed a board to the side of it to cover up the ugly mess that is the missing veneer, and the dial had fallen inside the cabinet. But, I put in a few hours of work plus some parts (5 or 6 capacitors, a tube, and some wiring), and got it working instead! It's a very unusual circuit, as it uses 10 tubes (4 of which could have easily been 2), plus 2 ballast tubes in order to convert the voltage to what the radio needs to operate. This also allows it to be used in other countries where the voltage is 220v (there is a switch on the back for voltage adjustment). AC/DC type circuits like this are usually only used in very cheap radios, but this was fairly high-end. MAG Welding Process Direct current is used in the process to heat the metal and fuse the two together. The electrode used is continuously fed by a wire feeder into the weld pool. 2. What is the difference between MIG and MAG welding? MIG welding uses inert or inactive gases for example argon and helium for shielding the weld while MAG welding uses active gases such as CO2. MIG welding is mainly used for non-ferrous metals like copper, aluminum, copper alloys, and titanium, etc. When we compare MIG & MAG welding both are gas shielded metal arc welding. But the difference between both the MIG and MAG welding processes depends upon the type of shielding gases used during the welding operation. MAG refers to Metal active gas. in MAG welding, active gas mixtures such as Carbon-dioxide, a mixture of Ar +CO2, Ar+O2, or Ar+H, or trimix of these three are used. Both the MIG and MAG welding are types of gas metal arc welding (GMAW) as explained earlier. 3. Why CO2 is used in MAG welding? Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an active gas, which is often used in MAG welding, either pure or mixed in small percentages with an inert gas. The main advantages of CO2 are that it is cheaper than inert gas and allows a deeper penetration of the metal. 4. Which is better MIG or MAG? Shielding gas cylinder for MAG welding is comparatively cheaper. MIG welding is preferred for joining non-ferrous metals (like aluminum). MAG welding is preferred for joining ferrous metals (like mild steel or stainless steel) Flux-Cored Wire : Using “cored” wire allows a MIG welder to skip the tank of CO2 or argon and weld without the gas. That’s because the wire core contains ingredients that do the job of shielding the weld pool. Like stick rod coatings, the core substitutes for the tank of shielding gas. This is particularly helpful when welding outdoors since a stiff breeze is enough to disperse a compressed gas. The process is formally known as Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW). Flux-cored wire also enables a welder to use higher amperages and larger diameter wires than solid wire. The process is used extensively in structural welding outdoors. While cored wire costs significantly more than solid MIG wire, you don’t have to deal with tanks of gas or wait for the wind to die down before you can weld. Despite the shielding additives, flux-cored wire is skinny enough to shoot out of a MIG gun. And the slag that comes with those ingredients is a fraction of what appears in the SMAW process.  Regular flux-cored wire is often referred to as Self-Shielded or Innershield, which is a brand name sold by Lincoln Electric. (Hence, when no gas tank is used, the process is formally known as FCAW-S.) ************************************************* ?
