I was skeptical at first with these units because of the capacity but I discovered how useful this power station really is. I've been using this battery for about two weeks now and have done some Reno work on a camper, range extended my homemade ebike, used for lighting for my videos, I also used the EB55 in camping/ glamping in the back of the bush and for cutting firewood. The EB55 is one model up from there smallest unit, the next model up from the EB55 is the EB70 and than EB70s. When deciding on what unit you really need you need to think of Capacity, Output wattage, and weight also budget. The larger the Capacity the heaver the unit, are you going to be carrying this around? or just keeping it in one place like a Van or RV? Are you going to use solar panels? Is 700 watts going to be enough for your AC appliances like microwave oven? You can buy lots of small appliances under 700 watts but if you want to use your own you may need to buy the larger EB70s with a 800 watt inverter or larger. I really like this power station it perfect for a ton of hobbies RC, Drones, ebike, camping, van life, RV, charging cameras, charging a dead car battery, Youtube, also can perform work with power tools under 8 amps. The unit weighs 16.5 lbs so it's vary manageable for me, I would probably go with a heaver higher capacity EB70s 716wh 21.5 lbs but then again I wouldn't want to carry the EB55 16.5 lbs for many hours. Buy or build your own? This channel is all about Homemade and DIY tech so yes of course you can build your own, but the only way to build something compatible to the EB55, is to use the same battery technology Lifefp04 cells. The cells are not cheap most of the cost will be for the batteries, you can find many online. Also you're going to need a pure sign wave inverter, solar charge controller, charger, large BMS, large buck converter, jacks/plugs, display, display/ gauges etc. Can you build one cheaper? Yes you could just use lead acid batteries and an inverter, I powered my camper with a 1000watt inverter for years but as for portable not so much. I rarely ever carry a battery around and an inverter so having the EB55 is very convenient and the Lifep04 batteries in the EB55 keep the weight manageable plus they will out last all the other batteries by years and years and years.
