Howdy guys and gals also explain why hanging the sheetrock before the last coat of stucco in this video is a good idea. Vibration causes cracking in concrete as well as stucco. These are solid substrates that don’t flex or bend like wood. They crack instead. The sheet rockers hung the sheetrock after we applied the second or last coat of stucco, which caused the stucco to hairline crack. However, even if the sheet rockers did not hammer on the inside walls when both coats of the exterior stucco walls are curing, usually for two weeks, it’s not unusual for hairline cracks to appear. In fact, that’s why the walls are hydrated or moist cured with your garden hose to expand; then, when drying shink, voila, cracks. We encourage homeowners to hydrate the base coat to force the cracking, as a new paint job or color coat will cover them. Hence they don’t reoccur again.
