This is my axial flux stepper motor. It’s called an axial flux motor because the magnetic fields line are oriented in the direction of the axis of rotation unlike a regular stepper motor where the magnetic fields line are oriented radially towards the center. You also may have heard it referred to as a pancake motor. One of the major advantages of these motors is the ability to have multiple rotors and stators stacked together like pancakes. This results in a very strong and relatively compact motor. They are often used in heavy machinery and in applications where space is a limited resource. This motor works the same way as my previous stepper motor design with an arduino and 4 transistors. I used 8 electromagnets on the stator and 6 N52 neodymium magnets on the rotor. If you hold a piece of magnetic viewing film up to the stator, you can see how the electromagnets are energized. You’ll notice how the rotor is very unstable and it bounces a bit every time it takes a step. This is because the magnets were too attracted to the iron core of the electromagnets so I had to increase the space between the stator and rotor. This design would work much better if I had used air core electromagnets instead of the the iron cores. There would be much less resistance when the motor steps and I could place the rotor much closer to the stator. I will also be adding a NeoPixel ring like the last version to show which of the coils are activated. This particular corded electric nailer is branded as "Lomvum LY-F30G 1600W Electric Nail Gun". Labeled to consume a 1600w power during operation and stated to drive 45 nails in a minute. Can accomodate 10-30mm brad nails as well as 16-25mm staples. Well that fancy specifications are so freaking amazing me to as a box builder! I could have benefited the ease and comfort in making speakers and subwoofer boxes many projects ago if I had just purchased one earlier. Gluing subwoofer box panels will take a lot of time and a lot of clamping to stick them together very good. When you have a brad nailer, wood working game is dramatically changed. All that tedious panel gluing tasks will be instantaneously done in very accurate results.
