I will show you every step of the way of the Lawnporn Spring Program that I do to my own lawn. Although my lawn is Santa Ana Couch, these tips are transferrable to warm season lawn types, buffalo, kikuyu and zoysia as well as any couch variety. The aim of this new series is to do the video as soon as the filming is done so it is on or near the day and time that those following the Lawnporn Spring Program have a good guide to follow. It has been an amazing journey. The program is now over 1 million downloads and is very well received by new and experienced lawnies. Starting Spring we get down Moist Soil Wetter. I have a sandy lawn base so that is suitable for maximum application. If you have a more clay based or loam soil, it may be worth experimenting between 100 - 200mL per 100m2. Moist Soil Wetter is the most used and highly regarded soil wetter in Australia and has proven to have excellent soil wetting qualities in independent testing. Moist has great penetration qualities and gets the water past the soil surface. Hydrophobic soils, soils that repell water, are not a match for Moist and it will get the water past waxy surfaces that can develop in any soil. Moist then keeps the water at the root zone longer, saving water, lessening the effect of evaporation and continuing to supply water to the roots. Moist will also evenly distribute the water over the lawn area. All the qualities of Moist will make very efficient use of water and eliminating chances of dry patches. Your lawn will look better, be healthier and you'll loads of money by watering properly. Moist needs to be watered in after application with about 6mm or about 20-30mins on your sprinkler to get into the upper layers and root zone area of the soil base. Straight after the Moist application, but before that watering, slap down Four Seasons. Four Seasons is the most popular professional fertiliser on the market for a reason. It works and works very well. Slow release Nitrogen for growth and potassium for plant health make for a good sustained growth. Iron in Four Seasons will impress with a darker green to the lawn and the sulphur component is designed for the plant to get to nutrients easier. The small grill will sit lower in the lawn canopy so it doesn't get sucked up the next time you mow. We always start the season with Four Seasons. It is suitable any time of the year. As you can see with my lawn there is some new lawn and that I laid 2 weeks ago after I removed some garden beds and installed irrigation. due to the area and some cool conditions at the end of winter, it hasn't grown in yet so it is too early for a mow. The first Spring mow should be nice and light, not taking too much off the plant at all. The bit that I mowed is the lawn that was there previously and over the winter I used selective herbicides to get rid of weeds and unwanted grasses. Now all that is left is mostly Santa Ana couch and that is starting to grow a bit again. I used a MowMaster at 13mm after I removed the debris from the last week which was very windy. The new and old lawn will be fine adapting to the same program. Of note, my renovation is now 11 days away. I have good temperatures of lows of 7-8 and highs of 25ish. I have got a couple of warmer days coming up and when you add the lows and highs and they equal about 35 degrees, then you know you'll be pretty good with doing a renovation around then.
