Nash Homework 3 Heavenly sword Review Heavenly Sword was released for the Playstation 3 in 2007. This game has a lot of polish and the game designers went the extra mile to make it look good. In the game the player plays primarily as Nariko, a warrior woman whose birth is believed to be a portent of doom for her clan. Players also play as Kai, a childlike archer who is catlike and agile in her movements. The game focuses around Nariko, who narrates the story, as she tries to protect the "Heavenly Sword" from the evil King Bohan who has been conquering clans to claim their sacred artifacts. The game has a pretty standard combat system with three styles of attack: weak but fast, strong but slow, and long range but weak. The player can do combination moves for more power, and as they play through the game more combos are unlocked. When designing this game the game studio Ninja Theory wanted to make a game that was visually stunning and "beautiful." In my opinion they succeeded in this goal. The game has fully fleshed out environments and enemies, as well as a strong story line. The voice acting in this game is done very well with actors such as Andy Serkis, known for playing Golem in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Anna Torv, the lead actress in the television series Fringe. The game may not be as challenging for hardcore gamers, but for average gamers it is a great game. Heavenly sword was one of the first games to make use of the six axis controller, and in my opinion it is still one of the best uses of it that I have seen. When Kai fires an arrow the player tilts the controller to steer the arrow into the target. This goes for any projectile in the game from cannonballs to shields thrown like Frisbees. This implementation is not overbearing, but is essential to the game. The game can be completed in five to ten hours. I enjoyed the bosses and the story. The game has stood the test of time reasonably well. It is still a good game years after its release, but when compared to more modern releases it doesn't always stand out. The last weakness of the game is that there is not a lot of replay value. Rather than playing the game again and again, I think that a player is more likely to play it, let it sit on the shelf for a year or two, and then maybe play it again, but it is not one that the player will be playing over and over for months on end. I give the game 4 out of 5 stars.
