The JRC pays great attention to communicating science, and to providing practical examples of the added value of European policies to citizens of all ages. It has become a tradition in Ispra to open the site to visitors at the beginning of May to celebrate Europe Day. The first guided tour for 300 persons was organized back in 1992. Since then the numbers have grown steadily - the 2011 edition counted over 10 000 people - with the Open Day becoming a popular biennial occurrence, not just for the public in the immediate neighbourhood. The island takes its unofficial name from the fact that it is populated by a colony of feral pigs which live on the island. It has become a tourist attraction in modern times. A single, factual account of how the pigs ended up on the cay does not appear to exist. Folklore and various theories claim a number of different scenarios including pirates. Some say the pigs are said to have been dropped off on Big Major Cay by a group of sailors who wanted to come back and cook them. The sailors, though, never returned; the pigs survived on excess food dumped from passing ships. Another legend has it that the pigs were survivors of a shipwreck and managed to swim to shore, while other accounts claim that the pigs had escaped from a nearby islet. Yet others suggest that the pigs were part of a business scheme to attract tourists to the Bahamas[citation needed] while another claims the pigs were stocked on the island in the 1990s by residents of nearby Staniel Cay to raise for food. The pigs are now fed by residents from neighboring islands and tourists and the island is unofficially known as Pig Beach by both locals and tourists. Today we're touring the Hyatt Regency, Which is a beautiful Atrium that was built in 1967. You might recognize it, it's been in over 60 films including The Hunger Games. Let's check it out! The aesthetic of the way this building was built is so cool! I could literally stand there and watch the elevator all day. They had some really cool art on the walls, this is one of my favorites. It's a bunch of records and you see me pointing that is one of my favorite 70's bands. Let's head up to the room shall we? The room was nice and clean, it had a nice similar decor, I definitely liked the feel of this hotel. The view was super cool because it's city views and your looking at the city from pretty up high! Let's have a quick peek in the restroom. I loved that they had a bunch of towels and toiletries. The red and gold accents in this hotel are just to die for Weeeee Hello Call me weird but I actually enjoyed riding this elevator, it's so cool because its clear and you get to watch everything going down. So there was a couple restaurants in the hotel, we didn't get to check them out. Unfortunately the restaurant that sits at the very top was closed due to covid. The gym was open, take a quick look. Open 24 hours that's always nice. There were a couple floors that were convention floors. Looks like an awesome place to go top a convention! How cool you get to go to the convention and have your room in the same place. Poor Sam broke her foot so this video was made from a wheel chair. They did also have a pool but the weather was cold so we didn't get to check that out either.
