The name means Park of the fiftieth anniversary and it was built during the reign of Leopold II to commemorate fifty years of Belgian independence. The area used to be a military training ground called the Linthout Plains,upon the order of King Leopold II the area was transformed to a grand exhibition of the 50th anniversary of Belgium's Independence. It took 30 years and 2 architects to finish the central monuments.
