Die erste erwähnte Kirche in Rüsselsheim war 1514 in der Nähe der Festung am Main erbaut, aber offensichtlich 1534 abgebrannt. Die Vorgängerkirche in Stein der heutigen Kirche am Marktplatz war eine kleine Dorfkirche, die 1594 erbaut wurde. Sie war einschiffig, spätgotisch und hatte einen steilen Turmhelm. Diese Kirche wurde 1790 abgerissen. Die Grundsteinlegung der heutigen Kirche war am 6. Januar 1791; sie wurde dann in 1793 eingeweiht. Nach der Planung ist es eine protestantische Predigerkirche; sie hat einen rechteckigen Grundriss wie ein großer Saal, - oder Zentralbau mit den Zügen eines klassischen Minerva-Tempels. Die Querachse geht von West nach Ost, Kanzel und Altar sind Richtung Norden, im Gegensatz zur Vorgängerkirche. Das ehemalige Hauptportal war im Kirchturm. Die Turmhöhe betrug beim Bau ursprünglich 28 Meter. 1922 wurde der Turm erhöht, da ein neues Geläut von Opel gestiftet wurde; dadurch erhöhte sich der Turm auf ca. 35 Meter. Die Stadt Rüsselsheim am Main zählt rund 65 500 Einwohnern und befindet sich in Südhessen. Sie ist die größte Stadt des Kreises Groß-Gerau und liegt ca. 25 Km nordwestlich von Darmstadt, ca. 16 Km östlich von Mainz und ca. 30 km südwestlich von Frankfurt am Main. Bekannt wurde Rüsselsheim vor allem durch den Automobilhersteller Opel. (1978 waren unter den insgesamt 50 000 sozialversicherungspflichtigen Arbeitsplätzen 42 000 sogenannte "Opelaner". Heutzutage bietet Opel am Standort Rüsselsheim noch ca. 14 000 Arbeitsplätze.) La ville de Russelsheim sur le Main compte environ 65 500 habitants et se trouve dans le Sud du land de Hesse en Allemagne. C'est la plus grande ville de l'arrondissement de Groß-Gerau.
