Basteibrucke (Bastion Bridge), is one of the main attraction in this Saxon Switzerland national park, this name can be a little misleading, as the Bastei is located nowhere near the actual country of Switzerland, the Swiss artists Adrian Zingg and Anton Graff gave this area the name Saxon Switzerland because it reminded them of their homeland. Basteibrucke is a unique bridge, suspended 650 feet in the air between towering sandstone rocks, the Bastei Bridge is a Victorian era engineering marvel. Built in 1851, it offers stunning panoramic views of Saxon Switzerland National Park. The journey to this stone span overlooking the Elbe River is as gorgeous as the view. Visitors climb a series of steps—487 to be exact—to reach the scenic platform. Short hiking trails link the bridge with several viewpoints. The trails are safe, well maintained, and in the steeper sections, have railings added for safety. Some trails are paved and some are dirt hiking trails. Hiking shoes are not necessary; a pair of sturdy walking shoes is sufficient. How to reach —— Regional trains ("S-Bahn") connect Dresden and Saxon Switzerland at least every 30 minutes during the day. They stop in Pirna, Obervogelgesang, Stadt Wehlen, Kurort Rathen, Königstein and Bad Schandau, then taking a short ferry boat ride across the Elbe and hiking up to Bastei Bridge OR From Dresden, it is a 50 km drive that takes about one hour. There is a large parking lot near the entrance to the Bastei. Parking costs 3€ to 7€ Park Cost —— The park is always open and it is free to visitors, however to visit ruins of Neurathen castle and for some best views their is a small fee of 2€, highly recommend to visit this place. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is what Singapore used to be 180 years ago. Before the early 19th century, most of the island was covered in lowland, primary forest. Between 1820 and 1870, a substantial portion of virgin forest was cleared to develop the island as an important trading post. By 1886, only 10% of the original forest cover remained. The development of MacRitchie Reservoir (then known as the Impounding Reservoir) in 1868 brought the forest devastation around the area to a halt. The forest around the reservoir was protected as a water catchment reserve. The reserve retains one of the largest tracts of primary rainforest left in Singapore. Bukit Timah is also home to Singapore's highest hill at 163.63 m. Composed mainly of granite, Bukit Timah Hill was once an active quarrying site in the mid-1900s.
